Welcome to the Book Boyfriend Project!

Syd and Jess are two twenty-somethings on an endless quest searching for the perfect book boyfriend one page at a time. Together, we host the Book Boyfriend Project podcast where we share book reviews, debate the merits of our favorite book boyfriends, and argue endlessly about our favorite fictional worlds. We upload new episodes every Monday and Thursday! All platforms that our podcast is available on are linked below!

Episode Breakdowns

Review Episodes

The Book Boyfriend Project will be doing a two-episode sequence on all book reviews. This has many purposes; the most important being that it allows listeners to choose whether they spoil the plot for themselves before reading the reviewed title.

The first episode in the sequence will be a general overview of the characters, the setting, and the plot pace. This is designed to get our listeners interested in the book and allow you to decide for yourselves whether you would like to read the book or not.

The second episode will be an in-depth look at the book where we discuss the plot, the worthiness of our leading man, and read short passages that gave us all the feels. This episode will be laden with spoilers which is why we separated the two segments. We do not want to be the cause of any spoiled endings for our listeners and will strive to always warn you guys ahead of time about potential plot spoilers.

YA Rewind

These will be a fun series of episodes that we do once or twice a year. Syd will choose a beloved series from her adolescent years for Jess to read and Jess will choose one for Syd. They will record reaction recaps at the end of each day spent reading the chosen books. Which will mean each episode has the most genuine reactions to the book. At the end of the book (or books) we will listen to the reaction clips and talk more in-depth about what they were feeling and their overall rating of the books. We will have multiple episodes on a series, with typically one to two books per episode. The episode releases will rotate back and forth between the ladies on which ladies new book reactions will be talked about. We've promised not to judge each others adolescent book tastes to harshly, but will be giving a fully critical review of the books from an adult perspective!!

Come hang out with us!

Bookish Terms

There are some terms that are uncommon outside of the world of bibliophiles so here's a quick list to clear up any confusion!

General Terms

  1. TBR= To Be Read; A fun term for the pile of books that continue to accumulate and that will never be empty for true bibliophiles.

  2. HEA= Happily Ever After; when the ending of a series or a stand- alone has a happy ending.

  3. HFN= Happily For Now; when a book in a series ends with the main couple happy, but more books are in the works so you know there is more strife ahead.

  4. MC= Main Character

  5. NA= New Adult, typically the characters are in their 20's.

  6. YA= Young Adult; typically high school age, will be very clean with minimal sex scenes

Relationship Defining

  1. RH= Reverse Harem; A term that means the female lead will have multiple committed partners

  2. MFM= A relationship where there is one female and two males. The separation of the M's means there will be no M/M action.
